Wedding Photography at Capriole Estate – Clea & Ben

Capriole Estate Wedding Photography Genuine and down right gorgeous are how I would describe Ben and Clea. These two were the winners of our retro styled shoot competition earlier this year and we were so pleased to photograph their real wedding.

Here we are talking sparkles, lights and a little drama – love it! Yes, some days it rains and if I was going to employ a cliché I’d say, “that’s when the rainbows come out”. Having just doused you with an old 80s tune, I’d rather say, that’s when we have some fun and create some magical memories. Cue the goodness (please add your own sound-track):

It really doesn’t ‘have’ to be raining to don a pair of these knee-high protective beauties, but we are always glad to have some.

Planning a destination wedding? Excellent – let’s talk! We love our local haunts and are welcome in some very unique and exclusive locations and estates, yet when we travel we take photos and often receive comments like, wow, no one has ever taken that perspective before, or I would never have thought of that.

Retro 50s wedding style

When planning a wedding, one of the first decisions comes down to Style. How would you like your wedding to be? What ‘vibe’ are you after and what style of dress will you wear?

With so many brides and grooms opting for styles reflective of times gone by we thought we would work with some Sunshine Coast Wedding Industry legends and create a whimsical, yet elegant, retro styled shoot. What made this concept even more cool, was the fact that we ran a competition and had a real couple as our models. Clea and Ben were our ‘winners’ and they were absolutly wonderful.

Clea’s Hair and Makeup was expertly applied by Kerrie Mace (Hair4Brides) and Natalie Hunter Makeup Artistry. Classic styling of a 50s bride is elegant with vibrant lips. This ‘pop’ of colour was extended throughout the styling to reflect in Clea’s shoes and our handsome Groom’s attire.

In this case we wanted Ben to ‘shine’ and we enjoyed having a little play with his retro look. Suits Direct saw to it that Ben’s look was stylish and yet still maintained that retro feel.

Jasmyn and Matt’s Awesome Couple’s Photography

I have a bit of a crush on suspenders…

vintage couples photography Here are some facts:

  • The first suspenders can be traced to 18th century France, where they were basically strips of ribbon attached to the buttonholes of trousers.
  • Benjamin Franklin is said to have worn them — although it’s probably best not to ask how historians know that; back then, suspenders were considered an undergarment never to be seen in public.
  • In fact, visible suspenders were considered risqué as recently as 1938, when a town in Long Island, NY tried to ban gentlemen from wearing them without a coat, calling it “sartorial indecency.” The ban was later overturned after residents complained.
  • One of pop culture’s most famous hooligans, Alex DeLarge (Malcolm MacDowell), wore them in A Clockwork Orange.
  • A 1986 People magazine article recommended that “fashion-forward teens” let their suspenders hang from their waist, arguing that drooping suspenders were “very sensual.”
  • Suspenders were largely absent from people’s closets in the 1990s and early 2000s — that is, until hip-hop style icon Fonzworth Bentley popularized the preppy dandy look. Recent years have seen a fascination with early 20th century culture (think: speakeasy-themed bars, moustaches, fedoras) amongst a certain subset of people — usually young, usually in major cities — who like to dress the part.    (Source: Time Magazine)

So forgive me if it appears that Matt’s suspenders have taken the show. They are cool, yes this is true, but really we still have to give focus to this dandy couple as they prepare to wed in early October.
